Trans-Alp trek

What to expect:

Crossing the main ridge of the Alps is a dream of many hikers. On this 9-day trek we embrace the challenge and walk the whole length of the trek without using public transport. We also stay off the beaten tracks as much as possible, which makes this a wild adventure through one of my favourite parts of the Austrian and Italian Alps. Experiencing such an adventure in a small group of likeminded people over a long period of time creates an energy within the group and it is beautiful to watch the group grow together as the days pass by. At the end, it is a lifetime experience that I am excited to share with you.

Physical requirements:

The 9 sections of the trek vary in length from 10 to 22 kilometres and in altitude gain from 250 to 1600 meters. On average, we hike about 6 hours each day (not including breaktime) and ascend on the main days more than 1000 meters. A trans-alp is a serious undertaking, and one should be well prepared for it. This trek is for you if you have been on multiple hut-treks in recent years, are regularly hiking in the alps on black routes, you are absolutely sure-footed and free of giddiness, can go uphill at speed, have no (knee) problems with long descents and have in general a very strong fitness. You should be able to go on multiple hikes in the months before on a similar difficulty level  and should have the time to prep up your fitness level in the weeks before.

Service included:

  • Organised hiking by a qualified mountain guide
  • A group of max. 8 guests (min. 4 guests)
  • 2 hotel nights in Innsbruck in double and twin rooms
  • 7 hut nights in shared rooms or dormitories
  • 1 night in a shared rooms in a guesthouse
  • 4x breakfast, 6x vegetarian half-board
  • Public transport from Innsbruck to the start and from the end of the trek

Extra costs on tour:

  • Transport to Innsbruck
  • 4x dinner, on the first and last evening in Innsbruck and at two huts
  • Lunch and beverages during the trip

In Innsbruck we stay in double or twin rooms with bathroom in a simple hotel, which is within 5 minutes walking distance to the main station. The huts are simple mountain huts, and all offer shared rooms, which are shared with other hikers if we don’t fill all beds and the hut is fully booked. One hut only offers simple dormitories that are shared with other hikers. All huts have shared washing facilities, and some huts offer showers at additional cost. The huts serve buffet-style continental breakfast and a set vegetarian three-course dinner. At two huts you choose dinner from the menu, as half-board is not available. Vegetarian diet is well supported on the huts’ menus and many huts offer (at least) one vegan dish by now. The huts aim to cater for dietary restrictions; however it is not always possible given their simple facilities and remoteness of their location. If you have any dietary requirements, please communicate them in advance.

It is possible and highly recommended to travel to Innsbruck via train. The hotel and meeting point in Innsbruck is in 500 meters from the main station. Innsbruck also has an airport, which is a 15-minute bus ride from the hotel. Munich airport is two hours away by train. Parking is not provided at the hotel. I will travel by train only and am more than happy to assist with booking tickets. Please  get in touch!
