Hiking & Yoga Retreat

What to expect:

My dear friend, Megan, who is a dedicated yoga teacher, and I are organising a rejuvenating retreat in a quiet corner of the Tuxer Alps. The beautiful Meißner Haus is located at the end of a tranquil valley by a river from where we venture on picturesque day-hikes to the surrounding lakes and peaks. Throughout the hikes we take some time out to enjoy the beautiful and wild surroundings of the mountains. In the evenings the hut team pampers us with typical Austrian  cuisine.

Physical requirements:

We hike about 4-5 hours each day (not including breaktime, up to 12 km and 900 m elevation gain) on forest roads or narrow hiking trails. You should be sure-footed and free of giddiness, but there are no technically difficult parts on the hikes. Given we are based in one spot, you can always take a rest day, which makes it the perfect trip for different hiking and fitness levels.

Yoga:

Megan will prepare a Hatha Vinyasa Seasonal Yoga Flow, which is influenced by Traditional Chinese Medicine and the Seasons. During the classes you are guided through a unique sequence of postures which have been specifically prepared to align your energy with the current summer season. Each class has a theme or intention to help you get more out of the session and encourages you to take what you have learnt off the mat. The practice is open to anyone and there are always options provided to suit all levels. There is a large yoga shala next to the hut that we use exclusively for our yoga classes during our time there and we can also use a small private sun terrace exclusively for our yoga classes.

Service included:

  • Organised hiking by a qualified mountain guide
  • 2x yoga classes per day in the yoga shala of the hut or the private sun terrace by a qualified yoga teacher, check: Megan Marcelle Yoga
  • A group of max. 9 guests (min. 4 guests)
  • 2 hotel nights in Innsbruck in double or twin rooms
  • 4 hut nights in shared rooms
  • 2x breakfast, 4x vegetarian half-board
  • Public transport from Innsbruck to the start and from the end of the trek

Extra costs on tour:

  • Transport to Innsbruck
  • Dinner on the first and last evening in Innsbruck
  • Lunch and beverages during the trip

Accommodation:

In Innsbruck we stay in double or twin rooms with bathroom in a simple hotel, which is within 5 minutes walking distance to the main station. Meißner Haus is a simple mountain hut, and we stay in shared rooms, yet only sharing within our group. The hut has new shared washing facilities incl. showers, a cosy common room, and a large sun terrace that we share with other hikers. The hut serves a breakfast buffet and a three-course vegetarian half board. The hut aims to cater for dietary restrictions; however it is not always possible given its simple facilities and remoteness of its location. If you have any dietary requirements, please communicate them in advance.

Travel:

It is possible and highly recommended to travel to Innsbruck via train. The hotel and meeting point in Innsbruck is in 500 meters from the main station. Innsbruck also has an airport, which is a 15-minute bus ride from the hotel. Munich airport is two hours away by train. Parking is not provided at the hotel. I will travel by train only and am more than happy to assist with booking tickets. Please  get in touch!

Programme:

Day 1 - Arrival
We meet at the hotel in Innsbruck, where we'll also spend our last night, so extra luggage can be stored at the hotel during the tour. There is a pre-tour briefing and discussion of the packing list in the afternoon and a joined dinner in the city centre in the evening.

This hike starts on a forest path up the river valley, which soon turns into a small hiking path. At the end of the valley we encounter the small blue lakes that invite for swimming. After a snooze in the sun and some yoga stretches, we take the same way back.

Viggarspitze (2306 m)
8 km, ↑↓ 630 m, 3-4 hrs
We start our hike through the forest up to the Boscheben mountain lodge and continue until we see the cross of Viggarspitze, from where the whole of Innsbruck with its impressive Northern Range is visible. The way back leads us via the Viggar-Hochleger-Lodge, which invites for coffee and cake.

Morgenkogel (2607 m)
10 km, ↑↓ 970 m, 5 hrs
We cross the river and get on a narrow paths that leads steep through the forest until we get above the tree line, where a gently uphill path leads us to the cross of Morgenkogel from where experience great views over the surrounding mountains. On the way down we pass Profeglalm Lodge, where we stop for delicious Austrian dumplings.

Day 6 – Descent
6 km, ↑50 m, ↓700 m, 2 hrs
Today we enjoy a short hike in the vicinity of the hut and descent back to the village of Mühltal from where we take a bus back to Innsbruck.

Day 7 - Departure
We finish our hiking week over dinner the night before. Everybody can meet up for breakfast in the hotel and you can start your travel home at any time today.
